This week I am giving you a unique way to use beeswax in a dish. If any of you have used beeswax in the kitchen before it is probably to make the delicious, moorish treats from Bordeaux, Canele. Well I have something quite different and to pair it I will show you a cool little dessert garnish to really set it off. I will also give you the recipe and link to a video on Canele as well as some other honey inspiration. I absolutely love bees and the amazing work they do for our eco system and honey is one of the best things in my kitchen if I am being honest.
What Is Beeswax?
As the name suggests it is a wax produced by honeybees to help build and maintain their honeycombs. It has many valuable properties and is used in candle making, cosmetics, polishing and in food. The wax is produced by the bees after they eat nectar and honey, energy and nutrients are then produced in the bees abdomen from wax glands that produce tiny scales of wax secreted from their bodies. It’s amazing really, the bees then use their legs to collect the wax and use their jaws (mandibles) to shape it into hexagonal honeycomb cells which they use to store their precious honey.
